Submersive Activity explores my relationship to water as an artistic medium. Water bends light, fractures it, and transmogrifies it in unpredictable ways. In the water, my subjects find new visual realities — unstable, luminous, and strange — and that is where I like to play.
Having spent so much of my life in water for work and play, I find it both unpredictable and deeply comfortable. It is the perfect place for mad visual science: an element where I can experiment with photographic alchemy and let my cameras discover what ordinary seeing cannot. This is me in my element: Steve the Transphibian, at work.
